Advanced Social Studies

Program Description

The Interactive Video Courses program at OHM BOCES is proud to bring dual-credit Psychology and Sociology to students in our schools. Each course is runs for one (1) semester and, every year, is offered both in the fall and spring. College credit from Mohawk Valley Community College is available for students in grades 11 or 12. For schools outside the Mohawk Valley, options for credit at a local community colleges can be explored. Our synchronous video classes meet each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at scheduled times. The times are built around the bell schedules of participating schools and, often times, we are able to combine students from two school together into a single class section. The classes are taught entirely via Interactive Video Conference, as the teachers are hosted at OHM BOCES while the students receive instruction from classrooms equipped with professional video conferencing technology at their schools. Both dual-credit courses meet both New York State requirements for .5 high school course credits as well as collegiate requirements to earn three (3) credit hours.

For more information on our advanced Social Studies courses, students should contact the guidance counselor at their school. School districts should contact Greg Smith at OHM BOCES to discuss options for technology and scheduling of these courses.
