NYS Manufacturing Day
Students from P-TECH OHM joined more than 200 students from communities statewide to virtually participate in New York State Manufacturing Day on Oct. 16.
The virtual, interactive, statewide conference celebrated manufacturers from across New York state and highlighted the many pathways that students can take towards careers in manufacturing.
During the event, students were introduced to local manufacturing companies, participated in informal networking at digital booths and heard from keynote speaker Adam Milton, Director of Operations at Cree Wolfspeed.
More than 60 manufacturers participated in Manufacturing Day 2020, including Cree, Regeneron and CONMED Corporation. The 2020 conference was offered through the Remo digital conference platform which allowed attendees to directly interact with each other in smaller groups, similar to how a conference or trade show may have booths for attendees to visit, while also allowing them to remain in the platform to participate in larger activities, such as keynote addresses and panel discussions.
The regional New York Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NY MEP) centers joined FuzeHub as event hosts and partners were the Advanced Institute for Manufacturing (AIM) at Mohawk Valley Community College, the Manufacturing & Technology Resource Consortium (MTRC) at Stony Brook University, Alliance for Manufacturing & Technology (AM&T), Center for Economic Growth, ITAC, TDO, NextCorps and Insyte Consulting.
Since its founding, Manufacturing Day’s goal has been to inspire the nation’s next-generation manufacturing workforce, encouraging students to consider careers in the industry. Manufacturing jobs are both in-demand and good-paying. Over the next decade, it’s estimated 4.6 million manufacturing jobs will need to be filled, and U.S. manufacturing employees have an annual average income of $87,185.
