O/H SLS Winter Reading Contest Winners
The Oneida/Herkimer School Library System is excited to announce the winners of their Winter Reading Contest.
Through the O/H SLS, many local students and teachers have access to Sora, a student reading app that provides access to ebook and audiobook versions of their school’s library collection, as well as the Mid York Library System’s juvenile and young adult digital collection. The Sora app allows students to set their own pace, return borrowed titles automatically, take notes and define words while reading, track their reading progress and even select a font option that’s easier to read for children with dyslexia. Students can also add their local public library to their Sora account, opening up an even larger world of titles to explore!
Local students were encouraged to use Sora to read as many ebooks and audiobooks as they could between December 15 and January 15, with the top-performing schools earning prizes from the O/H SLS. This year’s Winter Recess proved to be the perfect time to cozy up at home and enjoy a few good books – seeing nearly 5,000 eBooks and audiobooks checked out from the Sora/Overdrive digital library!
Winning schools, listed below, will each receive a $500 credit to choose ebook and audiobook titles to add to the O/H SLS digital library. In instances where a school would have won more than one prize, the second-place school was named as the winner to benefit the most schools possible. Several schools with high checkout percentages and high increases in reading were also recognized as Honorable Mentions and will each receive a $250 credit.
