Cyber Security Presentations
Keeping up with safety measures for today’s constantly-evolving technology can be difficult, but our Emerging Technologies & Cyber Security students are ready to take on the challenge.
On Jan. 14, two groups of students presented to members of the OHM BOCES CTE Advisory Council on how they’re learning to help prevent cyberattacks on cars and telephone systems.
The first group of students demonstrated how hackers are able to exploit vulnerabilities within the software, hardware and communication systems of automobiles. By accessing these systems, hackers are able to remotely control a number of the automobile’s features including audio, turn signals, acceleration and braking, leading to potentially dangerous situations for drivers.
A second group demonstrated how hackers are able to gain access to calls made through VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone systems, such as those used by many businesses and organizations today. Since VoIP sends calls directly through the same exact path that a business network uses for internet and other traffic, VoIP connections can open an entire network to attack and exploitation.
By learning how hackers gain access to these technology systems, students can prepare to become the next generation of cybersecurity experts who will ensure driver safety and network security.
