The Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES Safety Office organized two safety precaution presentations for students in the Career and Technical Education Center’s cosmetology program on Dec. 18.
Nellie Brown, Director of Workplace Health and Safety Programs for the Worker Institute at Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations spoke to morning and afternoon students about OSHA laws and regulations, salon hazards and workplace safety measures. Students had remotes that allowed them to participate in the sessions by answering a series of multiple-choice questions posed by Brown. The presentations provided a great opportunity for students to learn more about workplace chemicals and biological agents, ergonomics, stress management, workplace violence, and indoor air quality, among other topics.
