Career & Technical Education Center Named Top 20 School in 2019 School of the Year Competition

2019 School of the Year The Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES Career & Technical Education Center was recently named one of the top 20 schools in 2019 by the WIX Filters and O’Reilly Auto Parts School of the Year Competition.

This is the third year the Career & Technical Education Center has been part of the Top 20.

“We are honored with this recognition and must give credit to the partnerships we have that allow our students to learn not only in our program classroom and laboratory, but also in our regional automotive repair shops and service centers,” said David Stayton, principal of the Career & Technical Education Center.

Partnering with Tomorrow’s Tech, WIX Filters and O’Reilly’s Auto Parts announced the 14th annual top 20 schools selected from 196 nominations across 122 schools in the United States.

“To be ranked among the top 20 automotive programs in the country for the third consecutive year is truly an honor,” said John Stratton, auto instructor at the OHM BOCES. “It shows how we have been able to build a consistently strong program with the support of students, families, BOCES administration and the Cooperative Board. When everyone works together, great things happen.”

The top 20 schools, broken down by four regions, have been asked to submit a video highlighting their tech programs. Judges will review the video entries and select four finalists. The winner will be selected from the four finalists, with a surprise ceremony and formal announcement during the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) on November 4.

The winning schools will receive a visit by Tomorrow’s Tech staff and program sponsors, $5,000 WIX Filters donation to the school’s auto program, WIX Filters gear, appearance by the WIX marketing unit, travel for the class instructor and a guest to Las Vegas to attend Babcox Media’s recognition dinner at AAPEX.

Each nominated school will receive national recognition in Tomorrow’s Tech print and online editions. Schools selected to the final four will receive a $250 gift card from WIX Filters.

WIX aims to find the best technical training schools in the U.S. and the program is open to high schools or post-secondary schools.

The Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES serves the following component school districts: Brookfield, Clinton, Holland Patent, New Hartford, New York Mills, Oriskany, Remsen, Sauquoit Valley, Utica, Waterville, Westmoreland and Whitesboro.
