Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES Earns 14 Awards in NYSPRA Contest

The Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES was recognized with 14 awards in the New York School Public Relations Association’s (NYSPRA) 2018 Annual Communications Awards, a state contest to recognize and celebrate outstanding achievement in educational communications. Two of the honors were an Award of Excellence, the highest level of recognition, and six were an Award of Honor, the second place level of recognition and six were Awards of Merit, the third place level of recognition.

 

The OHM BOCES Career & Technical Education Center’s 2018-19 Program Guide earned an Award of Excellence and an Award of Honor in the Overall Graphics and Design category and in the Special Purpose Publication Category. The publication was created by Cheri Derdzinski, senior graphic artist in the School Communications Service. Also earning an Award of Excellence and an Award of Honor was the Utica City School District’s 2017-18 District Calendar, Reading & Libraries. The calendar earned awards in the categories of Overall Graphics and Design and Calendar. The calendar was photographed and designed by Derdzinski.

 

Receiving Awards of Honor in the Writing category are “Students Spreading Message of Unity and Support with Connection Calendar Project,” written by Rebecca Neary, public relations assistant, for the Frankfort-Schuyler Central School District; and “Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES District Superintendent to Retire,” written by Jean Palmer, senior public relations specialist. The Richfield Springs Central School District’s Capital Project Newsletter earned an Award of Honor. The publication was designed by Andrea Rafferty, associate graphic artist, and written by Shaun Kaleta, former public relations assistant. The New York Mills Union Free School District also earned an Award of Honor for its district website.

 

Earning an Award of Merit in the Writing category is “Friends of Rachel Club Adopts Houston Classroom Affected by Hurricane Harvey,” written by Neary. Receiving Awards of Merit in the Overall Graphics & Design category are a Jared Campbell poster and a P-TECH OHM Student Handout, both designed by Rafferty. In the Bond/Budget Newsletter category, the Oriskany Central School District’s Budget Newsletter was awarded an Award of Merit. In the Special Purpose Category, the OHM BOCES 2018-19 Service Directory and the 2018 Annual Meeting Book both earned Awards of Merit.
