OHM BOCES Career & Technical Education Center Named Top 20 School in 2018 School of the Year Competition
The Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES Career & Technical Education Center was recently named one of the top 20 schools in 2018 by the WIX Filters and O’Reilly Auto Parts School of the Year Competition.
This is the second year the Career & Technical Education Center has been part of the Top 20.
“We are honored with this recognition and must give credit to the partnerships we have that allow our students to learn not only in our program classroom and laboratory, but also in our regional automotive repair shops and service centers,” said David Stayton, principal of the Career & Technical Education Center.
Partnering with Tomorrow’s Tech, WIX Filters and O’Reilly’s Auto Parts announced the 13th annual top 20 schools selected from 221 nominations across 91 schools in the United States.
“To be considered among the top 20 automotive programs in the country is quite an honor,” said John Stratton, auto instructor at the OHM BOCES. “It would not be possible without the support of students, families and BOCES administration and the Cooperative Board working together to support the program. We also appreciate the work of our consultant committee members who constantly review our facilities, equipment and curriculum to ensure that it meets the needs of the industry.”
The top 20 schools, broken down by four regions, have been asked to submit a video highlighting their tech programs. Judges will review the video entries and select four finalists. The winner will be selected from the four finalists, with a surprise ceremony in October and a formal announcement on Oct. 29.
The winning schools will receive a visit by Tomorrow’s Tech staff and program sponsors, $5,000 WIX Filters donation to the school’s auto program, O’Reilly and WIX Filters gear, appearance by either the WIX or O’Reilly Auto Parts marketing unit, travel for the class instructor and a guest to Las Vegas to attend Babcox Media’s recognition dinner at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX).
Each nominated school will receive national recognition in Tomorrow’s Tech print and online editions. Schools selected to the final four will receive a professional automotive tool set and a $250 gift card from O’Reilly’s Auto Parts.
WIX aims to find the best technical training schools in the U.S. and the program is open to high schools or post-secondary schools.
The Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES serves the following component school districts: Brookfield, Clinton, Holland Patent, New Hartford, New York Mills, Oriskany, Remsen, Sauquoit Valley, Utica, Waterville, Westmoreland and Whitesboro.
