BOCES, Local School Districts to Participate in New York Food Day
The buildings in 18 local school districts and the Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES will participate in New York Food Day on Thursday, May 31, 2018. All of the National School Lunch Program kitchens will serve a menu featuring New York grown, processed and produced items.
To celebrate the Mohawk Valley Farm to School Initiative and the recent adoption of the “No Student Goes Hungry” legislation, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oneida County in cooperation with OHM BOCES and participating school districts, would like to invite elected officials and local media for lunch from 12:45-1:05 p.m. at the Memorial Park Elementary School in Waterville, 145 Bacon Street East, Waterville, N.Y. A press conference will take place upon completion of the lunch period.
This is the third in a series of Mohawk Valley Farm to School events. The menu for the day will feature all beef, all local (Oneida and Madison counties) hot dogs, Utica grown microgreens, Allegany County cheddar cheese, local apples and New York state milk and yogurt.
“New York Food Day showcases amazing foods that are grown and produced right here in the Mohawk Valley,” said Kate Dorr, OHM BOCES assistant school lunch director and registered dietitian nutritionist. “School lunch is a forum to introduce students to healthy eating habits and an opportunity to strengthen the local agricultural economy.”
