Motor Vehicle Operator - .75 FTE - School Food Services

The OHM BOCES Food Service Department runs school meal programs for several school districts in Oneida and Herkimer Counties. Food and supplies are delivered from a central warehouse in New Hartford to school kitchens each day.

This position involves driving a cargo van or box truck to make deliveries, completing basic vehicle cleaning and safety checks, and helping in the warehouse when needed.

Position Overview

Employees in this role safely operate non-CDL vehicles such as cargo vans and straight trucks. The job also includes routine physical work such as sorting, lifting, and stacking boxes weighing up to 60 pounds. Work is supervised by the Materials Management Coordinator and Assistant Food Service Director.

 Duties

  • Deliver food and supplies from the warehouse to school kitchens throughout Oneida and Herkimer      Counties
  • Help load delivery vehicles and complete assigned delivery routes
  • Collect and return paperwork and locked bank bags from schools
  • Complete daily vehicle safety inspections
  • Keep vehicles clean and remove snow when needed
  • Operate cargo vans, box trucks, and other non-CDL vehicles
  • Assist with warehouse tasks such as receiving and picking orders when necessary

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of local roads and traffic laws
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Dependable and able to work well with others
  • Basic mechanical ability
  • Physically able to perform the duties of the position

Qualifications 

  • One (1) year of experience in the operation of a light motor vehicle such as a car, pick-up, panel truck or station wagon
  • Civil Service Position, Non-Competitive
  • Additional experience preferred 
  • Part-time experience will be prorated toward meeting experience requirements

Salary $29,613 - $32,130 - This is a full-time position with benefits, prorated at a 0.75 FTE

Schedule 

  • ~35 hours per week from September through June, Monday- Friday, 5am-1pm
  • ~15 hours per week during July and August

Hours may vary based on operational needs.

Starting Date July 1, 2026

Special Requirements  Possession of an appropriate, valid New York State Motor Vehicle Operators license at time of appointment.   This license must be maintained throughout appointment. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is not required.
