Apprenticeship instructors have primary responsibilities for delivering the Apprenticeship training curriculum to students in the Apprenticeship program.

Electrician apprentices learn their trade under a skilled Journeyman electrician. They may work in public or private sectors, learning how to use the equipment, read blueprints, and work alongside a construction crew. Electrician apprentices also attended regular classes as part of their training.

The electrician apprentice’s responsibilities include completing all tasks assigned by Journeyman electricians, which may include assisting with installations, troubleshooting, repairs, and calibrations of electrical systems and equipment.

To be successful as an electrician apprentice, you should demonstrate good time management and customer service skills. You should be eager to learn and able to follow instructions.  Outstanding candidates are highly analytical, observant, and have sound knowledge of safety protocols.

Electrician Apprentice Responsibilities:

• Learning from journeyman electricians and complete all assigned duties.
• Identifying, analyzing, troubleshooting, and assisting with repairs of equipment and electrical faults.
• Traveling out to various public and private spaces to assist journeyman electricians.
• Interpreting blueprints and schematics.
• Completing electrical installations and carrying out various maintenance duties.
• Working irregular hours and overtime when required.
• Communicating with clients in a professional, courteous manner at all times.
• Collaborating with other electricians, trades, and venders.

Electrician Apprentice Requirements:

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• A willingness to learn and work overtime when required.
• Ability to handle criticism appropriately.

A foreman is within the first supervisory tier, ranking above workers but below managers. Foremen determine the priorities of work to be done, sometimes based on their own initiative and authority, but more often based on needs communicated by general foremen, supervisors or other upper management. It is the foreman’s position to address problems as they arise.

A general foreman includes general management of the projects for their particular trade. A person is required to have experience and understanding of all the required disciplines as the person will be in charge of organizing all site teams, inspecting the work, and controlling the overall job.

When deciding which firm to hire for a construction project, one of the biggest factors is cost. Project Estimators calculate the price of time, labor and materials for a specific job, and then put together a bid. They generally specialize in a particular trade.

Project managers control the time, cost and quality of construction projects for their particular trade. They plan and coordinate all aspects of the construction process, including working with engineers, architects and vendors. A single manager might oversee an entire construction project, or multiple managers might oversee specific aspects of a larger project.

The safety officer’s main responsibility is to diminish or eliminate work-related accidents. Safety officers develop, implement and enforce policies that reduce the risk of accidents. The safety officer is in charge of inspecting site conditions to determine if hazards are present and to establish procedures and policies to overcome those hazardous situations.

The project supervisor completes projects for their particular trade by planning, organizing, and controlling projects; completing quality inspections; and supervising staff.
