About Middle Settlement Academy (MSA)
Alternative Education Program
MSA at Lincoln
Middle Settlement Academy@Lincoln serves students in grades 7 – 11 and provides a progressive framework of learning with the goal of inclusion into programming options available at the BOCES Career and Technical Education Center (CTE) or MSA at MVCC in 11th or 12th grade. Students will work collaboratively with their teachers, school counselor and school social worker on the transitional planning that is necessary to ensure a high and sustained level of student support required for success. In the 11th grade, students are provided the opportunity to enroll in the half-day, one or two-year program of their choice at CTE. There, they receive the skills necessary to prepare them for post-secondary education or employment.
MSA at MVCC
Middle Settlement Academy at MVCC is designed specifically for students completing their senior year of high school, as well as those juniors who are in position and wish to graduate early. Students will not only work to complete high school graduation requirements, but will also engage in post high school education, training and work opportunities. The partnership with MVCC will allow students an option of educational training that can lead to high-tech careers in advanced manufacturing, as well as certificate programs leading to employment in the areas of education, healthcare and the skilled trades. Those seniors enrolled in a two-year program at the Career and Technical Education Center are also able to continue attending there for a half-day to ensure completion of that work. All students are enrolled in the MSA Senior Seminar Course which not only enhances and supports their social-emotional well-being, but adequately prepares them for opportunities made available through the partnership.
