Social and Human Services are a set of social assistance programs that includes everything from healthcare and counseling services to food and shelter offered through government and nonprofit agencies. It is designed to contribute to the welfare and happiness of communities by delivering a broad range of help and support to individuals and families. These services focus on helping people overcome adversity and empower them to make positive life choices that allow them to reach their full potential.

Child Care Worker
A Child Care Worker, or Daycare Worker, is responsible for maintaining a safe and fun environment for young children to preteens. Their duties include coming up with creative and educational activities, preparing and serving snacks to children and maintaining a clean environment for the children.

Community Outreach Organizer
A Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for connecting an organization with the surrounding community. Their duties include brainstorming potential partnerships or methods for engagement with the local community, maintaining a calendar for outreach events and working closely with community partners to plan and execute various outreach events.

Crisis Counselor
A crisis counselor focuses on an individual’s immediate needs, rather than a long-term reflection, in order to find some immediate relief and teach them some coping skills to deal with their intense feelings related to a specific crisis/event.

Mental Health Counselor
Mental Health Counselors work with individuals, couples, families, and groups to address and treat emotional and mental disorders and to promote mental health.

Occupational Therapist
An occupational therapist is a practitioner who uses therapeutic techniques to improve, rehabilitate, or maintain a patient’s ability to perform everyday activities.

Psychologist
Psychologists work with patients to identify their strengths or resources they can use to manage problems.

Recreation Worker
Recreation workers design and lead activities to help people stay active, improve fitness, and have fun. They work with groups in summer camps, fitness and recreational sports centers, nursing care facilities, nature parks, and other settings. They may lead such activities as arts and crafts, sports, music, dramatics, or games.

Social Worker
A social worker helps people cope with challenges in every stage of their lives. They help with a wide range of situations, such as adopting a child or being diagnosed with a terminal illness. Social workers work with many populations, including children, people with disabilities, and people with addictions.

Sociologist
Sociologists observe the activity of social, religious, political, and economic groups, organizations, and institutions. They examine the effect of social influences, including organizations and institutions, on different individuals and groups.
