Skilled Building Trades

Building trades are defined as trades (such as carpentry, bricklaying, plumbing, etc.) that are essential to and chiefly practiced in connection with building construction.
Skilled construction workers help build office buildings, homes, schools, roads, bridges, factories and other structures. The main construction sectors include new home building and renovation, heavy industrial construction, institutional and commercial construction and civil engineering construction.

Assistant System Operator
Assisting in controlling operation of the transmission system in a safe, reliable and efficient manner. Assisting in ordering appropriate operational changes to meet load fluctuations or loss of generation equipment, substation equipment or transmission lines.

Bridge Repair Assistant
Perform semi-skilled activities in a number of trades in the repair and maintenance of bridges under the supervision of a skilled trades employee.

Duct Cleaner
Perform indoor air quality measures for our customers, such as cleaning their duct work, sanitizing the ducts, and cleaning dryer vents. May include installation of other indoor air quality equipment, such as air purifiers.

Energy Advisor
Perform a thorough evaluation of a customer's home, focusing primarily on their existing building envelope and heating/cooling systems. Then prescribe the appropriate solutions based on your findings. These items can consist of air-sealing and insulation measures, higher efficiency HVAC products, as well as indoor air quality, standby generators and other solutions to make our customers' homes more comfortable and energy-efficient.

Works alongside a qualified team of engineers and technologists to ensure all machinery used to bring a design to life remains functional and working.

Facilities Building Automation Specialist
Performs installation and maintenance services on all types of control systems associated with commercial building automation, including information technology, safety, security, energy management, digital, electronic, electro-mechanical, and pneumatic.

Facilities Electrician
Perform all facility maintenance and facility support functions including electrical maintenance and installation. Work as a member of a high-performance, customer-oriented, proactive team. Maintain accurate records. Install, test, and maintain heavy duty and high power electrical system including distribution and substation equipment. Maintain and troubleshoot large capacity building HVAC system and electrical system, etc. Repair construct, install, troubleshoot and maintain routine electrical system and equipment. Cut, threads , bends couples, and strap conduit. Cuts wire and conduit to length. install, repair and or replaces boxes, light bulbs, plugs, sockets, light fuses and extension cords. Disassembles motors, generators and other equipment in preparation for repair. Troubleshoot for safety and efficiency. Uses blueprints, drawings, layout, or other specifications, and electrical hand tools and voltage -or-amperage measuring recording devices.

Facility Project Manager
- Execute construction, renovation, rearrangement, and installation projects in support of business needs
- Ensure project management controls are managed appropriately and reported accurately
- Assure project major milestones are established and maintained through completion.

Highway Maintenance Worker
Maintain highways, municipal and rural roads, airport runways, and rights-of-way. Duties include patching broken or eroded pavement and repairing guard rails, highway markers, and snow fences. May also mow or clear brush from along the road, or plow snow from the roadway.

Home Comfort Sales Representative
Assess the customer's existing home comfort systems and identify necessary upgrades for peak comfort and efficiency. Walk the customer through their options, being sure to answer all of their questions, and provide a thorough estimate in writing for the proposed project(s).

HVAC Installer
Responsible for the installation of heating and cooling systems (Furnaces, Boilers, Heat Pumps, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning, etc.) in accordance with company standards while providing excellent customer service.

HVAC Maintenance Technician
Perform preventative maintenance and seasonal clean and tunes on various HVAC equipment.

HVAC Service Technician
Evaluate HVAC systems, water heaters, fireplaces and other equipment to assess their condition and identify and perform any necessary repairs or preventive maintenance.

Perform and manage weatherization work safely, effectively, and efficiently. This includes insulating walls, attics, and basements, among other energy efficiency measures.

Job duties include, but are not limited to diagnosing and repairing faulty vehicles and equipment, overhaul adjust and repair gasoline and diesel engines, clutches, transmissions and differentials; ignition, wiring, lighting, fuel, cooling, braking and complex hydraulic systems; steering, wheel and suspension mechanisms; body, cab and frame components.

Systems Engineer
The Real Time Systems Engineer is responsible for critical real time plant computer control systems including SCADA, EMS, and Automation Systems. Responsibilities also extend to support systems such as archive and analysis systems, security access control and maintenance monitoring systems. Works with other engineers, operating staff, and departments to determine system requirements, data relationships, algorithms and programs to design and engineer secure and compliant solutions to collect/present data and to monitor and control electrical and machine elements of the electric grid systems to most efficiently support operation of the NYPA Power System to meet its short and long-term strategic goals. May also work with and supervise contractors hired to perform major system projects related to plant modernization and enhancements.

Traffic Systems Technician Trainee 1
Job duties include, but are not limited to installing, maintaining, testing, modifying, adjusting, overhauling and troubleshooting a variety of electrical systems, electronic, magnetic devices and computerized equipment used to monitor and control traffic signal systems and ITS devices.
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a BOCES or high school technical electricity/electronics education program

Transportation Construction Inspector
Job duties include, but are not limited to under the supervision of a DOT Engineer, assigned to one or more construction projects to perform the following construction or materials inspection or inspection related tasks: Earthwork Inspection, On-Site Concrete Inspection, Structural Inspection, Drainage Inspection, Asphalt Pavement Inspection, Materials Inspection, Project Support Activities, Materials Analyst, and/or Miscellaneous Inspection Assignments such as inspection of curbs, sidewalks, signs, guide rails, pavement markings, traffic signals, lighting, fencing, etc.

Waste Treatment Plant Operator
- Operate the waste treatment plant - start up and shut down water treatment system daily
- Ensure the WTP is being ran in accordance with all local, state and federal requirements
- Water analysis performed on daily structured schedule
- Chemical handling ( acid & Caustic ) used during the water treatment process
- Operate sludge press and handle byproduct
- Perform preventative maintenance on associated equipment
- Repair all associated waste water treatment equipment - pumps, mixers, metering, controllers
- Minor plumbing - mainly CPVC and PVC
- Operate and maintain the recycling plant - paper, cardboard and electronic waste
- Maintain a clean/safe work environment - including recycling, haz waste storage and the main water treatment plant
- Maintain accurate log books and spreadsheets
- Fully understand and utilize maintenance management system
