The law (legal services) sector comprises offices of legal practitioners known as lawyers or attorneys (i.e., counselors-at-law) primarily engaged in the practice of law. Establishments in this industry may provide expertise in a range or in specific areas of law, such as criminal law, corporate law, family and estate law, patent law, real estate law or tax law.
The government sector consists of all units of national, state and local government.
Social science is any branch of academic study or science that deals with the social and cultural aspects of human behavior. This usually includes cultural (or social) anthropology, sociology, psychology, political science and economics.

Assistant Public Defender
Assists in the planning, administration, organization, and operation of the Public Defender's Office. They visit the crime scene to gather information and prepare case files.

Attorney
As part of a legal team or law department providing legal research and advocacy services in the Mental Hygiene Legal Services (MHLS), attorney disciplinary committees and Article 18B panel administration units.

Civilian / Support Staff
Acquires and maintains employment records for all personnel employed by the office.

Confidential Investigator
The examination, prior to the finding of probable cause, of both written and oral evidence, that is not to be disclosed to any third party by anyone connected with the investigation, except upon the written request of the respondent.

Correction Officer
Oversee, secure and control arrested individuals awaiting trial or those convicted and incarcerated.

Court Attendant / Court Security
Keep the courtroom safe and orderly during court proceedings. Sometimes referred to as a Court Bailiff, a Court Security Officer acts as a secure presence and a person of authority as the court operates, keeping the Judge, jury, and staff free from harm.

Court Attorney
As part of a legal team or law department researching and analyzing legal issues from civil and criminal cases in trial courts and the appellate courts.

Court Clerk
Court clerks may be assigned to work in courtrooms or back-office support units where they perform a variety of tasks, including calling the calendar, preparing written correspondence and examining court documents to ensure accuracy.

Court Interpreter
Court Interpreters provide verbatim interpreting between English and another language in the courtroom and other settings. They also translate written documents.

Court Reporter
Court Reporters are responsible for the verbatim recording and transcribing of testimony in the courts.

Court Security
Court Officers are highly trained law enforcement professionals responsible for the security and protection of judges, court employees and the public in courthouses and court facilities throughout the state.

Deputy Sheriff
Work under the sheriff to enforce federal, state, and local laws within their jurisdiction. Sheriffs and deputy sheriffs typically work at the county level, in smaller departments than what police officers serve in.

As Law Clerk to Judge assisting individual judges with legal research and analysis and drafting decisions, orders and opinions.

Law Librarians and Law Library Support
Law Librarians provide a variety of professional library services including maintaining and evaluating library systems and performing legal research.

Office Clerical Support
Office clericals perform a variety of clerical and administrative support tasks, including checking, sorting and filing court papers, carrying out keyboarding functions and other general office work.

Paralegal
A legal professional who completes work—typically administrative —on behalf of a lawyer.

Social Workers & Case Management Coordinators
Problem Solving Court Specialists establish and maintain relationships with community service providers, act as courtroom representatives for problem solving parts, develop treatment plans, determine intervention services, counsel participants, prepare written reports/recommendations, and maintain case files. They require knowledge of social work techniques and procedures.
