    Dear Parents,

As you know, Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente has declared a state of emergency for Oneida County. As a result, all of our component districts, including OHM BOCES and P-TECH OHM, will be closed effective immediately and we plan to reopen on April 14, 2020.

In response to the COVID-19 impact on our schools and communities, our staff is dedicated to diligently continue supporting students’ academic and social emotional needs during this time. With the use of technology, we have found innovative ways to reaching our students but we still need your support since this is an entirely different approach to educating students without physically interacting with them.

At the beginning of each week, teachers will post instruction on our Buzz platform that could include: video lessons, assignments, projects, etc. Tuesdays and Thursdays will be working days for students to complete the instructions given by teachers. Wednesday is a check-in day for teachers to provide feedback to students. By Friday, students will be expected to submit work. Although we could never replace the value of a teacher’s presence in a classroom, this type of online instruction can keep our students moving through their learning while getting feedback from teachers. If you have not already, I strongly suggest parents sign up for access to the Buzz Parent Portal to view your child’s assignments by visiting and click on the P-TECH technology tab. You can access free Internet by calling the number listed on the back of this letter. Hard copies can be mailed home as needed.

Our counseling staff will be available throughout the week as well. Students can contact our school counselor, Mrs. Warner, or our social worker, Mrs. LeoGrande, during their office hours of 12:00pm-1:00pm. Monday through Friday. Students are certainly welcome to email them outside of those hours but that is when they will have phone conferences with students as necessary. If there is an emergency, students should utilize the contact numbers listed on the back of this letter.

Students who are enrolled at MVCC and attend classes on their campus, should continue checking the website and their email for any updates. If the campus is open or classes move to online instruction, students are to adjust accordingly. They will be notified by their instructors and announcements will be shared by Dr. VanWagoner regarding decisions that impact the entire campus. If their home district is not open when MVCC is, they will have to provide their own transportation. Mandatory tutoring provided by PTECH OHM staff is canceled until the week of April 14th.

At this time, your health and safety are of the utmost importance. Please practice responsible prevention to the spread of COVID-19 and take care of yourself and your family.
