The School Library System (SLS) provides library coordination and services to 80 member libraries under a plan of service approved by the Commissioner of Education. The SLS’s mission is to
• Enable school districts to participate in sharing library resources and support access to information to achieve educational goals;
• Facilitate the teaching of information skills and strategies;
• Provide professional growth and long range planning opportunities; and
• Instill the desire for lifelong learning.
The SLS provides access to 1.8 million books and more than 1,300 periodicals locally and regionally, on-line information resources, and library automation for staff and student use. SLS services are legislated and funded through the State Education Department’s Division of Library Development. |
