In this component of our IMLS Grant "Embracing Excellence: School Libraries for the New Century," the MLS candidates are made aware of relevant technology for use in libraries and classrooms. Candidates attend four institutes a year either in person or virtually. They then complete a review form rating their change in skill level after the training and evaluating the technology they experienced. Library Media Specialists are often called upon for ideas and strategies for infusing technology into curriculum areas, these tech institutes help prepare our candidates to fill this much needed role in our school districts. The tech institutes candidates have experienced thus far include: webinar training on database searching, tablet PCs and the manufacturer's built-in tutorials, and online forums and blogs.
