Drawing on the valuable human resources in our region, we have been able to build the mentoring portions of our grant. Nine retired librarians have attended mentor training and have been partnered with one or two of our MLS candidates. Through the mentoring program, mentors and their protégés will connect either virtually or in person a minimum of ten times each year. They will discuss trends in school library, projects from classes they are attending, and share moral support and professional collegiality. A number of large group events will take place to build a sense of community for all 19 members of this component of our grant. Hopefully, relationships will be forged that will last for many years and enrich the professional growth of our MLS candidates.
