School Library Media Specialists need to be leaders in their districts. Not only do they need to be strong advocates for their library programs but they also must be leaders in curriculum and technology. School Library Media Specialists are a resource for students, staff and administration. They are the center of the information hub of the school district if they are being true leaders in their district. To help prepare our MLS candidates for their role as leaders in their districts, they are required to attend a minimum of two days at an approved leadership program. August 2006, six of the MLS candidates attended the leadership retreat sponsored by School Library Media Specialists Association at Cornell University. They experienced activities based on the Inquiry Method of building programs led by Pam Berger and Barbara Stripling. The other four candidates will be attending leadership functions during the upcoming school year.
