This interdisciplinary presentation incorporates Social Studies and Science. The Weather and Ocean Currents cylinders will be used. We will review longitude, latitude, and the location of the Tropic of Cancer and Capricorn. The Weather cylinder graphically depicts the world's major weather patterns. The position of wind systems, pressure systems and jet streams will be discussed. The Ocean Currents cylinder is also used to demonstrate how weather and ocean currents are major factors on transportation, migration, climate differences, and navigation. We will also discuss hurricanes and their point of origin. If time permits, a hands-on hurricane tracking activity is possible.
