The
Sound of Rain |

| Materials: |
- gift-wrap tube
- aluminum foil
- crayons
- scissors
- rice
- margarine tub
- masking tape
|

|
| Procedure: |
| 1. |
Cover
one end of the tube with masking tape. |
| 2. |
Tear a length of aluminum foil twice the length of the gift-wrap tube. |
| 3. |
Crush and twist the foil into a spiral form that fits inside the tube. |
| 4. |
Carefully slide the foil twist inside the tube. |
| 5. |
Fill
the margarine tub with rice and pour it inside the
tube. |
| 6. |
Use
masking tape to close the tube. |
| 7. |
Decorate
the outside of the tube; cut and glue aluminum
foil raindrops around the tube. |
| 8. |
Hold
your rain stick upright for all the rice to fall
to the bottom, then slowly turn the tube upside
down. |
 |
| The rice falling against the foil will sound like raindrops. |

| II. |
Rain
Brush |

| Materials: |
- art paper
- paintbrushes
- paint
|
|
|
| Procedure: |
| 1. |
On a rainy day, have each child paint free form on his/her paper. |
| 2. |
Then while they are still moist, place the paintings in the rain. |
 |
| The children will enjoy watching the raindrops create unusual designs are they mix with the paint. |
|
| III. |
Sparkling
Raindrops |

| Materials: |
- rain drops cut out of card stock
- glue
- paintbrushes
- shallow containers
- glitter
- fishing line
- hole punch
|
|
|
| Procedure: |
| 1. |
Pour glue into the shallow containers. |
| 2. |
Show students how the paint a thin layer of glue onto the card stock, then sprinkle glitter over the glue. |
| 3. |
When the glue is dry, have students do the same to the opposite side of the raindrops. |
| 4. |
When the raindrop is completely dry, punch a hole in the top and tie the fishing line to it. |
| 5. |
Hang raindrops (at different lengths) from the ceiling. |
