Oneida County Crisis Residence Program

Services of a BOCES teacher are available through the Oneida County Crisis Residence Program. The program is located at the Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center and the House of Good Shepherd, serving students ages 6-17. The objective of the program is to prevent/divert unnecessary inpatient hospitalization of children ages 6-17 by providing a Crisis Residence Program.

BOCES provides a teacher for the children admitted and assists the Neighborhood Center Child Guidance Clinic with linkage to an appropriate school program in the community. Children can remain at the residence for up to seven days to allow sufficient time to assess their needs and provide linkages to the appropriate community services.

Non-Secure Detention Home

Housed on the Broadacres campus located in Utica, the Non-Secure Detention Home offers an instructional program for students who are temporarily being placed out of their homes into a detention home by court order. Small group and individual instruction is provided by a BOCES teacher, with residential support staff provided by the House of the Good Shepherd by contract with Oneida County.

Incarcerated Youth Program

Located in the Oneida County Correction Facility and funded through the Oriskany Central School District, this program provided educational services for students ages 16-21 who have been incarcerated. The major thrust of the program is to prepare students for successful completion of the GED test. On occasion, high school diploma students will receive tutorial assistance while incarcerated. Career exploration, life skills instruction, and a transitional support system are expanding components of the program. All other unique educational needs of students are met with the cooperation of the BOCES instructional staff, the appropriate home school personnel and the correctional facility staff.
