New Visions: Health ProfessionsOne Year Program New Visions: Health Professions students explore a variety of health occupations on-site at St. Luke's-Memorial Hospital Center and Faxton Hospital. The course integrates the study of English, social studies and occupational skills. Students develop competencies useful in a wide range of careers within the health field. Students benefit from presentations by hospital staff and mentorships in various departments. The mentorships allow students to observe staff and help students choose a career direction. Through the New Visions program, students speak and write in-depth about the connection between schoolwork and the workplace. They develop career plans based on knowledge gained through experiential learning. Students begin preparing for professional/technical careers by applying previously learned academic knowledge and skills to professional tasks and problems. To be eligible, students must be seniors who plan to enroll in post-secondary education for study in a health-related field. They must also meet additional academic requirements. (Please see guidance counselors for more information.) Students in this program receive four credits including one English and one social studies credit. Internship Sites
