Food Industry Internship Program

This program offers juniors and seniors practical skills and knowledge in business management within the food industry. Interns work 12 hours per week or more in a sponsoring supermarket and take Cornell distance education courses coordinated through the Career and Technical Education Center. An in-store mentor/supervisor directs and supports the intern throughout the work experience. This paid work experience also provides students with valuable training experiences directly related to the food industry. These experiences will provide early access to permanent jobs for students who stay within the industry, as well as help the food industry meet future management/executive needs. A number of community and two-year colleges participate in the Food Industry Internship Program in our area by offering interns an opportunity to continue their education beyond high school. In addition to high school credit, several colleges offer credit for completing the internship.
