Carpentry I & II

One or Two Year Program

This course teaches students basic skills in carpentry. Students learn basic layout and rough framing.

A student who completes this course may find a job as a carpenter's helper, apprentice or building trade salesperson.

With experience and further training a student may find a job as a building contractor, building inspector, construction equipment salesperson or a teacher.

Advanced Carpentry students gain practical experience by applying their skills to community building projects each year.

Students learn to use and maintain trade tools. They also learn to understand and follow plans, specifications and building codes.

Students completing this course may work as a general carpenter, finish carpenter, insulation installer, roofer, siding installer, plasterboard installer or form framing carpenter.

With experience and further training, a student may find a job as a building contractor, building inspector, building material salesperson, cabinet shop operator or construction equipment salesperson.

  • Instruction in site development
  • Floor, wall and roof framing
  • Use of power tools
  • Constucting interior/exterior walls
  • Thermal and sound insulation
  • Stair construction
  • Architectural blueprint reading
  • Estimating materials

Starting Salary Range
$5.50-$10.00 per hour
