a student's natural curiosity to wonder, question and discover. Process skills,
content and relationships can be developed and demonstrated in a unique educational
experience that supports varied learning styles.
The Stars
and More
Portable
Planetarium presentation topics are not solely limited to astronomy. While the
night sky, constellations, moon phases and earth's rotation are the mainstay
of all planetariums, the Portable Planetarium expands the horizons of many inter-disciplinary
subjects. Relationships can be demonstrated between the concepts of the earth's
tilt, rotation, weather patterns, ocean currents, climate, migration and trade
routes. Legends and folklore of many diverse cultures can be recounted and compared
based on star position and pattern. The cardinal directions of north, south,
east and west can be inferred by observing the day and night sky.
Customized
Learning
There are more
than 25 different Planetarium presentations from which to choose. Programs are
flexible - length and content of a program can be modified prior to, or during
a presentation to meet the differing need of students. HANDS ON-MINDS ON participation
is encouraged.
An
Affordable Alternative
The Portable Planetarium
Service provides a cost-effective, adjunct learning activity. The Planetarium
is set up within the school building, thereby eliminating the need for costly
student transportation. The Portable Planetarium Service offers five to six
presentations per day. Each 50-minute presentation can accommodate 25-30 students
(125-180 students per day). The cost of ONE DAY of Portable Planetarium Service
is comparable to taking ONE CLASS on an out-of-the-building field trip.
