(Seniors Only)
Meet the Instructor

This one-year program for seniors only offers students the opportunity to explore the multiple aspects of veterinary science and to explore career options in various areas of veterinary services. Students receive 4 credits; 2 CTEC credits, 1 credit in English, 1/2 credit in economics, and 1/2 credit in government.

General areas of instruction for the New Visions: Veterinary Science program include animal behavior, animal handling and restraint techniques, species and breed identification, anatomy and physiology, laboratory techniques, animal care procedures, and animal health and disease.

Students will participate in internship programs at various types of animal care facilities to help them to determine which type or types of animals they would like to work with more extensively. Internship programs will also give students opportunities to demonstrate good work attitudes, teamwork, and responsibility.

Students will learn the basic knowledge and skills required for employment at entry level positions in small animal hospitals, kennels, pet stores, grooming facilities, and animal shelters. The student will also be prepared to work at a pet shop, farm, or animal sanctuary and will be able to attend animals in zoos and agricultural facilities. Students wishing to pursue a college education in animal care will have been exposed to the basic knowledge and terminology needed for majoring in animal sciences or veterinary medicine.
