Meet the Instructor

Students in the Criminal Justice program will gain extensive knowledge in the fields of law enforcement and public safety. Students will learn theory and how to apply theory in real life situations. The BOCES Criminal Justice program prepares students to become effective citizens learning valuable tools that will help guide them in life's situations.

BOCES Criminal Justice students will study a variety of topics including law, accident investigation, accident reconstruction, homeland security, conflict resolution, forensic investigation, basic law enforcement, community policing, interview and interrogation, constitution, case law, firefighting, first aid and CPR.

· Federal, state, local enforcement agencies/jurisdictions
· Court system - federal, state, local
· Patrol functions
· NYS Security Guard Certification courses
· Investigation procedures and interrogation
· Alcohol and drug abuse - substance abuse
· CPR and first aid certification
· Job search/resume/interviewing process
· Probation and parole systems
· Corrections - federal, state, county
· Overview of firefighting
· Terrorism and weapons of mass destruction
· Domestic violence awareness/Family Court Act
· Arson investigation
· 40-hour APCO basic telecommunicator training certification
· Job shadowing with the Student and Business Alliance Program (SABA)
· Internship programs with law enforcement and other public safety agencies
· Technology and law enforcement/computer crime
· Cultural diversity

· Steno style notebook
Clothing Requirements:
· Juniors - uniform cap, polo style shirt with insignia, black shoes, sneakers or boots
· Seniors - uniform cap, navy blue uniform shirt, uniform pants, black belt, black shoes, sneakers or boots
