Welding
Program is Right On Target for Police
Students in the Welding program made two
metal targets that will be used to help law
enforcement officers in firearms
training.

Students Joseph Carstenbrock and Christopher
Faga, both from the Whitesboro school
district, thought it would be a good idea to
do a project that would help law
enforcement. Vince Malagese, Welding
instructor, spoke with local police and
suggested the targets. |

BOCES acquired special tools to make the
targets. "The project allowed our
students to help local police officers and
allowed students to gain experience in using
tools they otherwise would not have had the
opportunity to use," Malagese said.

The
targets were turned over to the Mohawk
Valley Police Academy in early January so
officers from local agencies, including
Utica Police and New Hartford Police
Emergency Response Team, will be able to use
them in training. |
