(Seniors Only)
Meet the Instructor

This program affords high school seniors the opportunity to complete 9 college credits during their senior year (AV170, AV171, AV172, AV173). Upon successful completion of these credits, seniors will continue the program as an MVCC student for three semesters, finishing the April after high school graduation. In addition to nine college credits, students will also receive four credits in Career and Technical Education, which can be used towards high school credit requirements.

The Program
The Airframe & Powerplant Technology (A & P) Certificate at MVCC is a 1,905 hour program certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The program has been approved by the State University of New York (SUNY) and registered with the State Education Department (SED).

Properly trained and certified A & P technicians are essential to aviation safety. They provide required aircraft maintenance at regular intervals and are qualified to recognize and address potential malfunctions before they become dangerous

A & P technicians can teach in certification programs, work as aviation inspectors, and provide valuable expertise in accident investigations. This exciting career has tremendous growth potential with the ongoing increase in both commercial and private aviation.

Employment
Aircraft and avionics equipment mechanics and service technicians held some 154,000 jobs in 2006, with 5 in 6 as aircraft mechanics and service technicians. More than one-half work for major airlines and air transportation companies. About 18% work for the federal government, 14% for aerospace products and parts manufacturing firms, and the remainder work for companies that operate their own planes to transport executives and cargo. Starting salaries are generally very good, averaging $30,000 annually.

The Training
This program offers hands-on experience with real equipment. The A & P program is offered exclusively at MVCC's Rome Campus.

Grand total for the entire A & P program for BOCES participants
A & P students who take the program entirely through MVCC will pay a total of $11,060 in program costs over three full-time semesters. BOCES students will save $1,733 over this cost of the entire program.
Notes:
The $300 for books/supplies and the $2,000 for tools are required after the first 400 hours, and the approximate $650 for the FAA exams is required at the end of the entire A & P program.

Tuition figures are based upon New York State residents who can provide Certificates of Residency at the time of registration. Higher tuition rates apply for students who are not New York State residents and/or cannot provide Certificates of Residency at the time of registration.

Costs are subject to change as approved by the Board of Trustees at Mohawk Valley Community College, and, for its certification exam, by the Federal Aviation Administration.
